    • What if you're a 9.5/10 in general? Kinda screwed here? :)
I'm size 11 and wear medium in DT socks.

Perfect fit without the sock moving front to back or side to side.

    • They fit true to size. Last thing you want is to have socks that are too big.

    • Thanks OP! I own about 7 pairs and while some of them are starting to wear out, theyโ€™ve lasted longer than any other sock Iโ€™ve owned (including smartwool and Costco)

And I bit the bullet and finally bought a membership. Dunno why I never did before.

    • From looking at the website, the $20 credit is issued on Dec 5 (so not immediately).
I signed up for Altitude Sports membership recently and just received an email offer today to review the purchase of my membership in exchange for a $10 credit. I assume this applies in addition to the $20 credit that is supposed to be issued on December 5th.

    • So the membership is $20 and then you get $20 to spend? Is the $20 available to spend immediately? As in can I buy these socks with the $20? Also I PMed you

    • If you are only buying $50 worth of socks(as that's the free shipping requirement), then an extra 5-10% hardly matters. I would suggest buying if you are looking to try them.
Additionally, if you see the membership offer on the site(they do $20 for membership and give a free $20 credit after that) then feel free to PM me after you get the credit. I will send you a 20% off code that can be used on Darn tough. This would be better as then you will also have the membership that can be useful in the future.

EDIT: Just to add, the codes don't apply on existing sales and don't stack with other codes.

    • The Icebreaker website still mentions a lifetime warranty, but you need to have the original receipt. Are you saying after the first replacement, you can't replace it again since you don't a receipt for the replacement? I've been buying up pairs at Winner's and I would stop if this true.

      https://www.icebreaker.com/en-ca/service-warranty.html
Yes their lifetime warranty just replaces the socks once now since you do need a receipt. Ive tried taking the replaced pairs back to the physical icebreaker store in toronto and they told me they onyl do it once. They might be nice and replace a pair without a receipt.

Quality wise, Smartwool socks are a good bit more durable. These Darn tough socks sound good with the lifetime warranty as long as they arent a pain to return.

This has been my experience as well, although the design has changed and I have not purchased them since then, but the reviews on the current ones are mediocre. For some reason, they aren't even on the website at all right now.

    • Rookie RFD move. I have bought 3-4 pairs of Darn Tough in the past at better sales. I would certainly not buy $300 of socks for a mere 5% extra.
This forum doesn't follow Altitudesport sales much, but the best time to buy is double/triple membership discount with no minimums and rakuten 10% off at the same time(which happens 3-4 times every year, but not on BF).
Additionally, coupon codes during those times give you 20% off on Darn Tough socks.
If I don't have a membership is this the best deal? Haven't bought these socks before.

    • Doesn't Costco have 'lifetime' warranty? :)

      Ron.
Actually no, any returns beyond 2 years are discretionary and need management approval. They will do it as a courtesy in limited situations but also review your account to check for abuse. Do it 2, 3 times they don't mind but if you're costing them money they will deny you. It's a balance between Costco not wanting their customers to be unhappy and feeling burned even a few years later, but returning a lot of old stuff is also where the most abuse happens so they do monitor it.

If you're suggesting the Kirkland brand has additional concessions (e.g. unlimited satisfaction guarantee) I wouldn't know

I have about 6 pairs of lightweight dress socks from Darn Tough. They ain't tough because I need to send them back a lot but I get free socks constantly now. In my eyes they are definitely worth the price.

I need to up my winter sock game now and would like to replace all my smart wool with darn tough. Not many stores carry the heavyweight.

Can you tell me what is the difference if you purchased that before?
I just sized up one and it fit perfectly. I ordered black and gray so it's almost the same sock, just a slightly different pattern. But according to their site I think the sock is a bit shorter

    • 3 Pairs is enough for free shipping.

Not sure what the exact threshold is though.

      Edit: $50 for free shipping.
Actually free shipping is $49 so I paid $49.17 for two pairs, then applied $20 in expiring credits from product reviews.

      This is the way.

    • Amazing socks. I've slowly replaced my socks with Darn Tough over the years. Got all sorts of lengths and weights - my favourite lengths are micro crew, 1/4 ankle and no shows. Super comfy, antimicrobial, warm and cool, and the designs/colours are cool.

The only issue is that the inner "cushion" tends to come out (like chunks of wool), and some pill easier than others (I always delicate wash and hang dry). I've sent 2 pairs in for warranty due to holes and got replacements with no issues.

    • Perfect for those AltiAction and expirable credits. I'm a huge fan of DT: have some for running, hiking, general wear, and with boots. I just went through the warranty process for the first time - dropped them off at the Vancouver distributor, and the replacements showed up within a week. Note that they'll match the model, but colors/pattern may differ. Now I have lightweight wool socks with pigs and mushrooms on them...

Bought 3 more pairs. Thanks OP

Yes, but the versions they sell are seconds/b-grades and do not come with the lifetime warranty. Still can be a good deal, depending on the price as they are good socks.

I have been wearing them for years and have not had an opportunity to get replacements. I want to, though.

    • Do these fit true to size? I'm a US 9 and chart says M is 8-9.5 and L is 10-12. True or should I size up?
I would say true size. But if getting "over the calf socks" for size 9, can go larger depending on size of calfs. They do not bunch up.

I ordered a pair a few years back and found them overly tight. Not nearly as stretchable as my cotton socks (couldn't wiggle my toes around comfortably). Didn't wear them for long after that, so not sure if they would've stretched out in the end.

    • of course you can think that any half decent pair of socks will give you a few years for a fraction of the price, so really i wouldn't say these are going to save anyone money because of their lifetime warranty.
they are premium socks even w/ their warranty imo, good quality but high price tag even if you do keep them for 10+ years before you lose one.
Mate, I'm just hedging against inflation.

    • The key selling point of the material they use is merino wool, which is the best for odor. Merino wool and this brand are considered the best for hiking which, as you can imagine, is an activity that can cause sweaty feet. They're not cheap but unlike other expansive socks that go into the garbage when you rip them, you can get a new pair for free.

I don't think they will completely stop you from sweating but I think they should help
This. I wore the same two pairs of socks for 43 days this summer, basically just rinsing them in camp site sinks or dunking them in a river and ringing them out- while they did get visibly gross, they NEVER smelled bad. Still own the same socks (after running it through a proper washing machine obviously haha).

As others have said, there are definitely better sales, but if you need some long warm socks now - this is a good price.

    • Another rookie move :D I don't want to be blamed if you don't find something you like if the future sales are not so good.

I would still recommend ordering some now, as they will be useful over the winters. Last year they had the good sale in the first week of December, but you can't always predict when things might change.

EDIT: Also to add - Since these are Merino wool socks, they don't need to be washed very often. So getting 10 pairs is definitely overkill unless you have a big family or are gifting it. I have 4 pairs in total. 2 for Hiking & 2 for daily wear.

Absolutely ๐Ÿ‘ Whenever I get such credits, I don't wait for the best sales as that alone on orders of ~$50-70 means 20-25% of savings.
