On August 12, Hudson's Bay Company (HBC) announced that the company would be split into two separate businesses – one for online e-commerce and one for their brick-and-mortar stores.
The e-commerce website will operate as "The Bay", while brick-and-mortar stores will operate as "Hudson's Bay". Each will operate independently with distinct leadership structures, as HBC hopes the change will help accelerate their digital retail presence in Canada.
Hudson's Bay department stores will continue to be an important component of the business, serving as "discovery destinations" for customers to interact with merchandise, according to Hudson's Bay President Wayne Drummond.
The shopping experience will not be impacted by the change, as customers can continue to use Hudson's Bay Rewards and credit cards at both The Bay and Hudson's Bay, while returns and exchanges will be processed online or in-stores.
