Amazon Brings Free One-Day Delivery to Ottawa-Gatineau

By Simon Hung

Amazon Prime members in the Ottawa-Gatineau area will receive future orders very quickly, because the region is now eligible for free one-day delivery!

Seven cities in Canada are eligible now for free one-day or sooner delivery.

The two neighbouring cities join Calgary, Edmonton, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver as regions eligible for the lightning-fast delivery options -- click here and enter your postal code to check if your address is eligible for one-day or same-day deliveries.

Items eligible for one-day delivery must be Sold and Shipped by Amazon or Fulfilled by Amazon and will have a One-Day Delivery icon next to the price. Qualifying orders over $25.00 placed before 10:00 PM local time will be delivered the next day, even on weekends! Orders under the $25.00 threshold are eligible for free delivery within two days.

Speedy delivery is one of the best benefits of Amazon Prime, as the quick turnaround is handy for times when you need something in a pinch and don’t want to go to a brick and mortar store. Other Amazon Prime perks include 20% off video game pre-orders, 20% off diaper subscriptions, access to Amazon Prime Video and more!

An Amazon Prime subscription costs $79.00 per year or $39.00 per year for eligible students. One-month and six-month free trials are also available to standard members and students, respectively.

    • How is this a deal? One day shipping is available free with prime all the time in most cities. I've had same day a few times in Vancouver (ordering before 11am).

Because it wasn't previously available, that's how.

    • so how is the cut off time for same day shipping interpreted:

      Ottawa-Gatineau: before 10pm local time

so if i order before 10pm tonight, i'll get it the next day?

[edit] sorry.. this is different from same day. Ottawa still don't get it yet.

I don't get it, says I am eligible, but then offers $3.99 one day shipping?????
Not all items on amazon are eligible for FREE 1-day. If an item is eligible, it will say FREE one-day next to the prime logo. Also keep in mind it's $25 min spend.

    • Welcome to the club, Ottawa-Gatineau shoppers :)

I've been enjoying one-day delivery in Toronto since it launched. It's been very convenient and I've gotten packages same-day on occasion as well (arrived late evening around 8 or 9 PM). Amazon is truly a force to be reckoned with. They utilize a combination of Canada Post and their own local contracted couriers in plain vehicles to deliver.

    • i would like some clarification here, 'cause i found some potentially contradicting information, in terms of same day delivery (order today, get it today)

      https://www.amazon.ca/b/?ie=UTF8&node=9863204011

Above url says Same-Day Delivery available in Toronto and Vancouver - Learn more
But if you use the map, and punch in your postal code (i did with my ottawa postal code) it says:

      Great news!
Prime Free Same-Day or Free One-Day Delivery is available for residential addresses in K2J.

Jump in joy? or wait and see

I think the fact that it says 'or' indicates laziness by amazon's devs to make it clear. You could always try to order before 11:00am (which seems to be Toronto's cutoff) and see what happens...
