Sonic Mania: Collector's Edition Coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC in Spring 2017

September 13, 2016If you've got fond memories of playing Sonic the Hedgehog on your Sega Genesis as a youth, then you were probably excited this past July when the gaming company announced the upcoming release of Sonic Mania as part of their 25th anniversary Project Sonic activities.
Many gamers will argue that both Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 were the best titles in the franchise, and it seems Sega has heard that, as Sonic Mania is reported to be a side-scrolling 2D game, reminiscent of the originals.
After swirling rumours, and a leak from Amazon, Sega officially announced earlier today that they will be selling a collector's edition of the upcoming title for nostalgia-seekers. While the game itself is rumoured to be available via download only, Sonic Mania: Collector's Edition contains plenty of goodies to satisfy fans in lieu of a physical game disc. The collector's edition of Sonic Mania comes packaged in a box modeled after old Genesis cartridge boxes, along with a metallic key card containing your download key for the game, and a collectable Sega cartridge with a series trademark golden ring. The centrepiece of the collector's edition is the included 12" Sonic statue, standing on a Sega Genesis replica base. The statue's base even includes a functional switch that plays the famous Sega start up audio.
Sonic Mania: Collector's Edition is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. As of now, there is no concrete release date, with Sega only listing the game for a spring 2017 release. You can currently pre-order the game from both Amazon and EB Games for $89.99.
