PlayStation Plus Subscription Prices Increasing on September 22
By Simon Hung
August 22, 2016PlayStation gamers may want to consider extending their PlayStation Plus memberships now, because Sony has announced that prices for PlayStation Plus subscriptions will be increasing by up to $20.00 starting September 22, meaning PlayStation Plus subscription cards will likely be a hot commodity until then.
As per a PlayStation Blog post, the price increase will affect all subscription packages in Canada:
- Monthly plan - $11.99 per month (previously $9.99 per month)
- 3-month subscription - $29.99 (previously $17.99)
- 12-month subscription - $69.99 (previously $49.99)
Current subscribers will be charged the new rates once their subscription ends on or after September 22. As a result, a savvy way to save money would be to buy subscription cards before the price increase, since you can extend your PlayStation Plus subscription before its expiration. There is no limit on how many subscriptions you can stack, so you can theoretically purchase ten 12-month subscriptions and apply them to your account to extend your subscription for the next decade.
Weโve listed a few stores where you can purchase subscriptions. As of August 22, Costco has the best prices for both 3 and 12-month subscriptions and a Costco membership is not required to shop online.
3-month subscription
12-month subscription
- Amazon - $49.99
- Best Buy - $49.99
- Costco - $45.99
- Dell - $58.99
- Newegg - $49.99
- PlayStation Store - $49.99
- Staples - $49.99
In a statement to Kotaku, Sony stated โThe new pricing reflects the current market conditions while enabling us to continue providing exceptional value to our members. If you do not wish to continue your subscription, please be sure to cancel it by turning off auto-renewal in your account settings before September 22, 2016.โ Those who want to cancel their subscription or turn off auto-renewal can click here for instructions.

2. View your game library especially the ones mark with the plus sign it give you the expiration date (PSN+)
1. Do I have to redeem the code before the 22nd?
2. Where do I see how long my PS Plus status runs until?
Thanks

I can only hope the price increase goes towards stability.
Going to sell one to my friends, don't like prepaying for 2 years in advance - way too long.

Staples $20 off $100 w/ VISA.
Might be best deal for 2x PSN cards @ $49.99 each.
But looking at this year, I don't know if I got value out of my subscription. I played a few hours of Black Ops 3 and Star Wars Battlefront. I downloaded some IGC games, but did not play them.
This may encourage me to focus on single player titles.
The PS4 is simple.
Also because, and I know people are quick to try and prove me wrong, XBL is superior to PSN; everything from actual online play and experience, to integration across platforms to "free" games and discounts.
I bet you got XBL and EA Access with a discount. Why are you comparing discount/sales vs msrp? XBL is 59.99 and EA Access is 29.99 msrp. It's not like there will not be deals for PS+
I'm not a cheap bastard, but this is RFD after all, and yes the Canadian dollar is not what is used to be compared to the US, nevertheless we're not really "making" more money than a few years ago, and let's not forget that the US membership prices are also going up, with just a very "fuzzy" explanation from Sony. Does this mean that MS and EA will follow with price increases. I don't know, or really care, since I'm also a PC gamer, where free online is always the norm, discounted PC codes are a few clicks away, and the "free" games option, is a totally different story
$59.99 USD is currently $78 CAD
j/k
What if you switch consoles in that time?
I'm sitting on stacks of PSN cards that I got for 20% via VISA CheckoutBB, Staples, etc.
I doubt I've paid more than $40/year for as long as I can remember. I'm good to 2018, perhaps I should go right to 2019.
Clearly you guys are visiting this site, USE IT!
The reality is, I have the subscription for online gaming, the downloads are extras.
69.99 seems really expensive to me. With the Canadian dollar low, I've noticed that some things are cheaper in Canada again. IE Canadian wages haven't increased anwhere near the drop in exchange rate, so retailers can't jack up all their prices by 25% as people would stop buying stuff. Maybe they could of met in the middle and tried 59.99?
I've got about 2.5 years left right now. I'll probably buy a few more before September 22nd (hoping for another $15 back from spending $100 deal).
This is actually being criticized and discussed much more sternly on other gaming discussion sites and the response from RFDers is incredibly tame in comparison. The amount of people willing to be apologists for Sony here is kind of ironic for a site that exists to save people money
