There aren't too many ways to entertain yourself for about $1 nowadays. However, Valve Software is offering up its magnum opus , Half-Life, for $0.98 US on Steam in celebration of the game's tenth anniversary. Sure, it's an older PC game, but it should run on a wide variety of systems, and it's considered by many to be one of the greatest games of all time. $0.98 US is probably as cheap as it's going to get, so there's no need to wait another 10 years to play the game.

Steam, for anyone who isn't aware, is an extremely popular digital download service for PC games (that also happens to be made by Valve Software).

  Pretty sure you get to download and play CS1.6 and DOD for free.
  
  I actually bought CS in retail and it still counts as a HL CD key which allowed me to play DOD even when I downloaded it on Steam after DOD became retail.
