I have the IP4500 that I bought almost 2 years ago.

It's an amazing printer. I love it for it's duplex printing.

The downside is that now the inks have chips in them, so even the OEM inks are a little more expensive... Love the printer though...

Very good quality printer, way better the Epson R300/320.
I am using an IP4600 for more then 1 year printing about 15 pages daily and never had a problem.
The cartridges are easy to refill and the chip can be reseted in a second, also CIS are available and pretty cheap.
And one more thing: This is the canadian model which comes with CD tray and prints on CD/DVD.
Just grabbed one for backup.

I have ordered the MX330 online and got the pick-up confirmation, but now they ask me to come and get the refund as I have not bought the computer! I asked them to refund it to my card, but they insist that they can't do it, I have to visit the store to get the refund!

UM, thats probably because they fixed the price error before you tried to pick it up. I got mine no problems though.

Only after this experience I realize that TheSource operates totally different from Futureshop etc. They don't have a customer service number! Even if you manage to get one they respond with 'who cares' attitude!

Few months back I bought a refurb laptop from Futureshop.ca. Last week received a Windows7 upgrade saying that my laptop was shipped with 'Vista home basic' when the ad indicated it was 'Vista Home Premium'! The fun part is that there was a gift card for $25 for the 'inconvenience' I suffered!

I am looking for a reliable printer with easy refill. I already bought the MX330 from the previous price error, but I haven't had the time to open it up.

The MX330 has one black cartridge one one tri-colour cartridge, whereas this one has 3 seperate colour cartidges and 2 black cartridges.
Is it correct to assume will be much more convenient to refill the IP4600 since it will require less refills because of the higher capacity than a single tri-colour cartridge?

I print all my digital photos in shops, so I am not looking for great colour quality. I am only looking for printouts without any feathering, which both machine can produce according to reviews. Nor am I in the need for faxing capabilities.

The price for the iP4600 and the iP4500 is the same. But you get less ink for the iP4600 ink cartridge. Therefore, it is more expensive to run the iP4600 than the iP4500. If you refill your cartridges, there is not chip resetter for the iP4600 chip yet. If it is for me, I will continue to use the iP4500 as long as possible. I have 3 iP4500 and 2 are in storage.

I was perfectly fine. Did you use the 1 hour option that has the store take it from their own stock? I had it shipped to store within 3 - 5 days and just went in, signed, picked up and left.

I've had minor issues with TSCC, but nothing that couldn't be fixed with a simple inquiry via the website. They're relatively very friendly in my area.

Where do you get the CLI-221 cartridge chip resetter from?

I don't want CIS as it takes desk space and I don't print sufficiently large amount to justify it.

Don't know a single reason why the iP4600 is supposed to be superior to the iP4500 (as the model numbers would suggest). side to side comparison shows that iP4600 is inferior in every single aspect (starting from ppm , through number of nozzles, to the power consumption)
You can compare specs iP4600 and iP4500

That said, its the iP4600 that is available now at $50, and it comes with the DVD tray (main reason I got the iP4500) then I think its no brainer getting one.

I have the 4500 model. It is really good and you can print directly on discs as well.
Also bought a chip resetter for it.

I ordered the printer on the 28 and got a confirmation that the order had been shipped to the store.. but nothing since then - no confirmation call from the store.

Any ideas ?

you can just go to the store and it is ready for you,
if you want to be sure, call the store first to double check.

just bring your online receipt and a piece of ID

where did you get your chip re-setter?
There are plenty of chip resetters for CLI-8 cartridges which are what the iP4500 is using. Just search 'canon chip resetter' in e-Bay.

AFAIK, there is no CLI-221 chip resetters, which means cartridges cannot be refilled.

This is why newer low cost Canon printers like the iP4600 are using CLI-221 cartridges. Canon does not want to lose the margin on the cartridges, that is how they recoup the cost of these printers.

Just a few words of advice on the Ip4600.

You can get auto reset chips + refillable carts on ebay.
I would advise getting these if you intend to refill. A lot of times when refilling under the old 4500 models it would come back with Ink tank unrecognized.
Resetting the cartridge would correct this problem.

However, the one advantage to letting a refilled cartridge read empty is that eventually the printer will turn OFF ink monitoring. Turning off Ink monitoring is a very good thing in this case of the Ip4600. It uses more cleaning cycles when ink monitoring is enabled.

It's a double edged sword, if you keep refilling and resetting, the Ip4600 will eventually say your waste ink pads are full.

On the previous models a user could reset this by pressing a button combination. This has been disabled.

You now how to have to pay a canon tech to change your pads out and reset it with I'm guessing is a software tool. (the tool has not been made available anywhere online)

Bottom line, keep this printer on at all times to avoid cleaning cycles on start up,reset with auto reset chips only when the printer errors the cartridge.

The fellow who's employer threw out the Ip4500, I just cringed, that printer is worth it's weight in gold. The ip4500's are so sought after they are going for $150 BNIB on Ebay.

If you have an Ip4500, it's worth your time and money to buy a new print head if it fails if you are a refiller. if you have an ip4500, Ip4300 you don't want pm me!

This deal is still a great deal, as they just brought out the 4700 which I'm guessing is only slightly better and costs $140ish

Just remember that as of this writing, when it says your ink absorber pads are full, it's going to cost to have it fixed. (not worth it, move to Ip4700)

I am expecting Canon to change their drm on their chips for the Ip4800, so it's a good bet to say the ip4700, and Ip4600 will be worth a bit if a waste pad reset hack is found.
