There's not many 1.4lb netbooks around and even fewer that go on sale. SonyStyle.ca has cut the price of the Sony VAIO P to just $599.99 from the previous $799.99 price, which itself was reduced from $999.99. Add the $50 off $500 SonyStyle.ca coupon code, CJFMPLC50, that expires on March 31st you're under $550 with free shipping included. The specs are very similar to the typical netbooks with few additional features:

Intel Atom 1.33GHz processor
Windows Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit Bilingual
8" LED backlit LCD w/1600x768 resolution
2GB memory
80GB 4200RPM hard drive
Memory Stick Duo, MMC, SD card reader

The killer feature though is really it's size. It weighs only 1.4lbs and measures just 9.7 inches by 0.8 inches by 4.8 inches. Sony shows people stuffing it in their pocket but that's probably not very likely unless you've got huge pockets. Still, this is small and very light and the price is reasonable for what you're getting - a tiny, stylish, high-resolution netbook.

- Very stylish netbook but the small but sharp screen, lack of trackpaf, and very sluggish CPU not to mention premium price made it a failure. I hope they create another iteration.

  Note that it is a slower Atom in this thing (*not* 1.6GHz).

  Personally I like this thing and for $599 I think it's worth it. It's not your usual netbook, it's practically a UMPC.
  
  I find most netbooks too large. This thing is the right size to shlepp around if you are trying to go light.

- I think they had the right idea for creating a small stylish netbook when every other manufacturer was coming out with generic white book designs like the original Eee PC or the Aspire One. But the high price is definitely turning people away as people getting netbooks would consider price to be an important factor.

  Sticking Vista on this thing was the other major problem (Vista was the original O/S supplied with it last year instead of XP).
  
  2GIG of memory + slower Atom CPU (1.33 instead of 1.6GHz) = bad news.

- IIRC, the display on these was way too high res for the size and didn't seem to have good contrast.

- if it goes down to $300 i'm gonna consider picking this up lol, not at this price just yet. i'll give it another month =) but 2 gigs of RAM right off the bat is better than most 10" netbooks these days, and it's got Windows 7 HP instead of Starter. Not bad, I can live a mouse and not have the track pad if that's the case =)

  Yeah, who said Sony is for budget users? You pay extra 10-15% just for it being Sony. It has always been like that. It's like a luxury car - it might not be THAT luxury, but you still pay for the brand. I paid $145 US for a Sony leather case to my custom Sony Vaio Z: 2k worth of notebook deserves a good casing, otherwise, just don't buy Sony Same with this thing. I doubt it will go any lower any time soon.

  Difference is that this is a $599 (actually $550 if you use the $50 off coupon) netbook not a $2000 notebook - that they sell a $125 case for.
  
  Seems like Sony is just unloading old stock - as the "newer P series" have upgraded CPUs (might have other upgrades but have not really looked into it that hard).

  Dude, you said it yourself. It's nice to have lots of choices. Everybody else makes $250-400 10" netbooks if you just want dirt cheap.
  
  I was on a trip and I had a 3lb laptop with me. Along with my camera gear in my knapsack, it got pretty tiring lugging it around. I am considering getting one of these just so I can travel lighter in the future.
