    • hot deal if you haven't upgraded your old core 2 duo system yet. get this and use your old heatsink (the newer ones are smaller), and put the bus speed to 166mhz or higher. instant 3ghz+ cpu! edit: I meant 266mhz not 166mhz

      the performance of these e5x00 cpus can be described as similar to a e8x00 that is 200mhz slower. and for comparison, e8x00 cpus feel around 200mhz slower than a core i7 at the same mhz.

      Only thing I always disliked about Tigerdirect is that they charge PST in Manitoba (and I assume everywhere) whereas NCIX only charges PST in BC.

    • I got the AMD myself. Looks like the E5200 is gonna be phased out soon along with HTPC LGA775 boards.

      I realize the E5200 is a better bargain, but I don't feel right getting an LGA775.

      Will let you guys know how it turns out.

      Ditto! The 240 would be a kind of tempting upgrade from my X2 5000+ Black Edition, but not enough to even justify that great price.

      Although, if the 240 is a better overclocker than what I've got...

      There were no spectacular deals but I chose the XFX nforce 750i ($109.97) for this build... maybe I'll SLI some cheap nvidia cards and hopefully it allows for the e5200 to OC decently. Normally I always stick with Intel chipsets but hopefully this one doesn't suck. Was looking for an ATX because the HTPC case I bought accepts it.

      What do you want out of the motherboard? For example, do you care if it has built in video, eSATA, firewire etc.? Do you want ATX, mATX, itx?

      If you just want the basics they have a number of motherboards with built in video for LGA775 in either mATX or ATX for under $80.

      um... 12.5 x 166 = 2075mhz. This cpu is 2.5Ghz stock. I think you mean 240mhz bus speed will get you 3.0Ghz. at least.

      also, mine does 3.5Ghz on stock voltage, up to 4Ghz with some extra juice. prime 12hr stable, as well as game/folding/etc stable. And i leave speedstep enabled so it clocks down to 1.68Ghz when idle.

      yes, definatly noticable. Netburst = dead. This will clock higher, use less power, and give you better performance pretty much everywhere especially when oveclocked.

      I should mention, however, that the new E5300's support VT, so if thats something you want, i say hold out for one of those.

      Odds are if it's written with fortran it's not threaded, thus dual cores doesn't really do anything for you.

      I was going to order but I'm outside the free postage zone, so they threw on $19 postage. Going to try price match somewhere though, thanks OP

      irrelevant unless your motherboard bios supports this cpu, and I bet a dollar it doesn't given what you just said

      I current have a OCed E2140 at 2.8Ghz, do you think upgrade to this one is a good idea or not?
