I know it's only a few dollars more than a regular burner, but is it worth it? From what I have read, the output quality is not great, and the cost of the media is prohibitive. Is this technology something that will keep improving, or is it going to go the way of beta?

Both my DVD writers are lightscribe and I too have YET to use its features.
The price difference is like a few $$, so i'd not waste too much time thinking about the pro's/con's. God knows we all spend more then a few $ a year on extras (coffess, etc.).

I have a laptop that has built in light scribe, haven't used it yet, I'm unsure if I ever will. When I worked at Staples before I remember trying to create one on a desktop HP and it took 45 minutes to finish.
Does anyone know if it's normal for it to take so long? |

It's normal. 30-45minutes depending on what is being written.
I've used mine for special things like Wedding DVD's and Photo DVD's but that's about it. I'm almost tempted to just forego lightscribe and get a printer with printable dvd's. |

I refuse to spend more $$ on Lightscribe which I plan on never using in my life.

I used it a couple of times.
It's good, and yes, it does take a while. But that does not matter on what type of disc, it matters at what quality you're burning at. I burnt on normal, and it takes like 20minutes, I'm assuming best would take 30, and the lowest one takes probably 10minutes. |

Thanks guys, for confirming what I was thinking. Although it's only a few dollars more for a lightscribe, I'd rather spend it on something I'd actually use.
Just out of curiosity, has anyone compared the quality between lightscribe and printing on a printer? Last edited by Gigi; Jan 20th, 2007 at 11:09 AM.. |

Um, I was under the impression that the image is burned onto the disk with lightscribe??
Obviously, I have no idea what I'm talking about! ![]() Sorry guys, I know I'm not asking the smartest questions...but I would like to build my first PC and it's a bit overwhelming for me. |
