Where is the best place to get rid of a car?

I have a 1996 Passat GLX that I want to get rid of. There are too many issues with it - such as slipping tranny and oil burning and cracked windshield and driver side power window that does not close past the 1 inch level.

In reasonable condition this car gets $4,500 to $5,000 but I am looking for about $1,500. Any thoughts on where to get a reasonable amount of money for it?

drive down a back road highway like highway 12 and drive into a pole at 80km/h with it.. claim it was stolen and when they find it demo'd you can collect the insurance...

if u replace the visible stuff,. u might get mroe.

I would suggest driving at 60 kph, as that would already be good enough to hurt your neck.

otherwise, some GM or pontiac dealerships, forgot which one, are running promotions on a guarenteed value on trade ins, around $1000-2000. Maybe you can give that route a try as well

True, I put my 1987 Mercury Topaz L to rest at 50 km/h, but I was hit head on by an old Pontiac 6000LE... total writeoff, very minor injuries.. got $2600.00 which was $500.00 over my Black Book Value for my car! Also, since back in 1996 when I had this happen they had this "first time claims policy" where my insurance didn't go up for the accident, even though there was no faultless insurrance anymore.. so I'd say it is an excellent way to get rid of a car... minus the fraud aspect.

I don't know about the river aspect, it's winter like and it's cold out.. and you know what cold water does...

Put it in neutral with a running start, and dive out of the way. (It can still fall through the ice.)

You can donate it to charity and get tax credit of the current market value.
