Question What are some good ways to spend AirMiles?

My girlfriend has collected quite a bit of airmiles over the year (6000+ I don't know the exact number actually. But at least 6000, possibly more, but under 9000 that I know for sure). I know most of the rewards there are rip-offs. But what would you recommend to spend it? She already ordered a couple of the Shell car wash packages and a couple of famous players movie pass.

She's looking to make a big splash on the spending. Maybe something like this or this (for some reason she read that there's a special on the digital system that's at 54xx AM's right now). Any ideas?

[EDIT: Link doesn't work if you don't have airmiles login apparently. Anyway, first item was Frigidaire Stainless Steel dishwasher @6500 AM. Second item was JVC Digital Theatre system @6100 AM (or she said 54xx for a special right now)

Find out how much the product retails for and divide by the number of AM needed. The bigger the number, the better the value. ex. $20 gift / 125 = 0.16

Some of the rewards are rip-offs, so be careful

The thing is, the AM's are sitting there collecting dust. Even knowing fully that a lot of them a rip-off's, she just can't find too many way to spend. So might as well just spend it. It's sort of free anyway. But thanks for the suggestion of the price/AM's. So $0.16/AM is considered good, I assume?

I'd say $0.16/AM is pretty good, most are less. I guess she'll just have to choose something she wants, or wait and build up even more AM! Depends on her taste, right? She worked hard to collect so many points, so have a little fun with it.

I'd say that she should redeem them for A&P\Dominion gift certificates. With her grocery savings, she could then spend that money at any store she wants.

We had that much points (or more) before and I ended up spending them all on A&P/Dominion gift certificates.

They used to be less points before, only 100. But now it's 125 and I wish we had spent it all before the increase

The A&P/Dominion option sounds intriguing. The bad thing is there isn't really one near where she lives. Anything for Loblaws or Longo's?

I think the Famous player movie tickets are pretty good, the one with 2 passes, 1 reg popcorn and 2 reg soft drinks, wroks out to abotu 40 dollars. and I think it's about 300 AM points.

Also Pharma Plus Gift Certificates are OK especially considering your GF might be interested in certain cosmetics etc?

Well, I poked around a little in the AirMiles site. Found the Panasonic home theatre system for 6400AM's. It reatils at FutureShop for 799.99. Now I know it's usually over-priced in FS, but working in the taxes, it averages out to be $0.14/AM.

Thanks though. I think she's gonna go with the A&P/Dominion, and/or Pharma Plus route and use the money elsewhere if we come across a deal on home theatre
