Uber rig to me means 2GB of RAM, a Core 2 overclocked, a Geforce 8800 series card, and a couple of Raptors in RAID-0.
You should be able to get your Opteron up to at least 2.6Ghz.

4GB RAM + an X6800 or QX6700 would do it for me right now.

It's what they call supercomputers in Germany.

I recently picked up two SS cases, the LC03 and the LC13. Both came from the factory with glaring physical errors. One had a couple case fan screws missing, and one remaining was stripped bare...looked like they tried to remove it, couldn't, and just shipped it out. The same case also had one grommet for the foot missing, and so one foot was screwed on.
The other case had all FOUR feet screwed in....with 2 different kinds of screws. Amazingly, there were grommets in the box, floating free. Just never installed. I was very disappointed with what is regarded as a relatively upscale case. On the other hand, both cases LOOKED good, which I guess is what people want.

Lets see for gaming I guess a quad core extreme is fine :P
but overall I would prefer dual quad xeon 5355 1x8800gtx 4gb (2x1gb per processor) pci-x fibre channel hardware raid card, raid 5 4x Curtis HyperXCLR, 1x for spare hotswappable http://www.sparcproductdirectory.com/ssd1.html pci-e sata hardware raid card, raid 5 4x hitachi 1terabyte sata drives (is this even out?) pc power cooling Turbo-Cool 1KW-SR PSU as much as I want a 30", I'd prefer 2x Eizo FlexScan S2411W |
