What is the best DVD-Rs to buy for long term storage like 5 years or more. Please nothing crazy like $50 platinum plated dvd-rs or somethjing.

It depends, if you want the VERY best media for longevity, but take good care of your media, then Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD±Rs. Taiyo Yuden 8x DVD±Rs will do, but aren't quite as good. If you tend to abuse your media, go for a hard coated disc. TDK, Optodisc, and Verbatim offer this kind of media.

Someone mentioned to me that how you store your media is just as imortant to long term survival as which media you use.
