You'd be better off spending the extra $100+tax at Aden and get the kit with the 55-250mm IS lens or just get the regular kit w/18-55 IS and put the money towards a 70-300mm IS USM which routinely go for around $600 used on craigslist/kijiji or $750 brand new (including tax). The 70-300mm IS is better built, with a little more reach, quicker and quieter autofocusing and is an EF mount (only important if you plan on using it on a 5D or 1D series camera in the future). IMO, I'd recommend that if you want a far superior camera, you should consider picking up a used 40D on craigslist/kijiji for around $750 with less than 10,000 shots taken (the shutter is rated at 100,000 shots). Ones with warranty still remaining routinely come up in that price range. You can also get the 18-55 IS lens for around $125 used which is a good 'bang for buck' lens. A 50mm f/1.8 lens goes for around $100 used which is another good 'bang for buck' lens. If you want tele, a 55-250 IS lens goes for around $260 used. |

last year i was able to get the XSi with the 55-250 IS instead of the 75-300 USM for 899.99 from Dell, but not sure if they'll ever have that again. imo the lil extra for the 55-250 IS would be worth your money...then again not sure if they'll have that again.

Just as a comparison, I got my Rebel XSi kit about 6 months ago on a PM at FS (PM'd a Dell sale because I didn't want to wait for shipping). I got the Rebel XSi, the 55-250mm f/4.0-5.6 lens, and the 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens. Dell was advertising it for $820, so when I PM'd it at FS, I ended up paying about $800 + taxes. The 55-250mm lens I got has IS, and sells for an extra $100 or so over the 70-300mm lens in this kit.
This price is definitely cheaper than the standard street price, but I think if you can wait for the purchase, wait, as I would be you'll be able to find a better deal in the coming months, especially since the Rebel EOS T1i has been released. Just my two cents... |

or price match it with futureshop and save more along with ease of return if you don't like it. The XSi offers little usable advantages over the XS and you'd be better off using the savings towards a better body in the future or more/better lenses now. |
