It all depends what you want these radios for. Those are junk personally. I have had about 6 brands and types so far, and we use them mostly for amusement parks when away on trips, and when the kids take off to the variety store a mile or 2 away.
The FRS is junk! I have 2 cobra models that were gmrs 2 watt and then upgraded to a 3 watt. The 3 watt was good. Also had a 3 watt pair of motorola's as well. I just sold them and purchased the latest out there,,,,, 5 watts of power and 14miles range. Midland gxt500 models. You cannot buy these in Canada yet. They probably will sell in excess of $125 when they arrive. I bought them off ebay brand new for $50 U.S including shipping. Extra $15 roughly if you want the charging kit and mics. Best thing too,,, you never have other people on your channels. |

GMRS is 100 times better then FRS
the important thing as well is the power (wattage) most frs are pathetically underpowered and useless in a park etc,,,, as they lose there range when there is anything in the way,,,, |

For the price they are an excellent buy. In cities though you'll be hard pressed to reach a mile with these and most other GMRS radios. The NIMH rechargeable option is excellent for the price. I would buy if you wanted a pair of radios for that price. At the high end Cobra 3-watt radios (25km) with NIMH rechargeables go for $99 as comparison |

They are crap!! dont waste your money!!!!! They are rated for 5 miles,, which means you wont even get a mile out of them,, plus they look like child play toys. In reference to the person mentioning cobra 3 watt units,,, I just sold mine,,,, I bought them over a yr ago in the states for $35 U.S ,,, they are good but again,,,, no chance of 25km range,,,, more like 5-10 km max I just picked up my new ones,, Midland GXT 500 which are the most powerful at 5 watts,,,, with a very long range,,,,, these are not even available in Canada right now,,,, but ebay has many at a price range of $40 and up depending if you want rechargers etc,,,, which I find are not needed |
