Default Wal-Mart Canada's Return Policy

Did Wal-mart just change their return policy, I tried to return something today with a receipt that I bought yesterday, and they told me they changed their policy and can now only issue store credits.

Huh... their return policies have always been generous. Maybe they just change it for December and January? Who knows. What does the receipt say? Should have terms & conditions (briefly, anyway) somewhere on it.

The guy in front of me was also issued a store credit instead of a full refund. There's nothing written on the receipt about anything being different.

how did you pay for the item? if you bought it with store credit, that is what you will get back when you return it. store credit is also issued for purchases made with gift cards, reloadable shopping cards and "no receipt" returns.

they didn't even go that far, they automatically issued a store credit no matter which method of payment you used...

My wife returned something yesterday. Paid for by CC, refunded on the CC, no problem.

it seems like the original poster has left out some details since this is what i can gather based on his responses so far:

-buys something dec. 4th and pays with credit card at walmart, receipt issued
-lines up to return item on dec. 5th with item to be returned, original receipt, and the credit card he used the day before
-is issued store credit instead of credit card refund

something doesn't make sense... there is no way that walmart would have issued store credit if what you have said is exactly what happened

Default Return policy

It may have changed... my friend was there yesterday to do an exchange on a pair of boots that were the wrong size, and they wanted either a driver's license or a credit card to do the exchange. She has neither, and they would not let her use any other form of ID (school ID, health card, etc). She did not have a receipt, as they were a gift, she just wanted a different size. I have never heard of this, and it never happened to me when doing a simple exchange. The CSR told her it was the new policy.

I've always been carded when I've done exchanges, even. Imagine what would happen if a guy ripped off a mp3 player from Future Shop, for example, and exchanged it for store credit at Walmart without getting a driver's licence.
