In XP the Nvidia control panel has a 'Performance' section under 3D settings that includes setting the SLI configuration and Monitor Temperature Levels. On My BFG 7950 GT OC it very intelligently speeds the GPU fan down to very quiet for normal use and speeds it up when i launch a 3D application. This card uses the nvidia reference design so the fan is quite loud on full speed. I really appreciate how it's nearly silent when doing normal desktop use.
In Vista the Nvidia control panel does not have a 'Performance' section under 3D settings. it only has the 'Appearance' section including adjusting image settings with preview and Manage 3d settings which lets you tweak program specific settings. The reason i went looking for this is because in vista the GPU fan runs full speed all the time. Is this a case where Vista is a 3d app so my video card will be running it's fan full speed 100% of the time and i'm just going to have to learn to deal with the noise? Or are the drivers (downloaded the vista x86 driers from nvidia) just not full featured yet and a further update will be smart enough to slow the fan down? Alternatly, is there a program that will let me manually slow the fan on a 7950GT? Speedfan did not have any options for my GPU fan. I was going to look into rivatuner but i don't know wether it does fans or not. Any thoughts appreciated. |
