Yea,
U need insurance. But I think U also sometimes need to present your card if U have no money. Some hospitals want proof that you have coverage at home and can sometimes bill the provoncial gov't for you. Also, if you have no money in my experience. The "public" american hospitals are just as good, if not better than what we have in Canada. And since they are public. If U have no money they have to treat you- it's the law. Also if you can't pay the whole bill, they can sometimes reduce what you owe. Don't know if that applies to everybody but that has been my experience so far in the US. As for doctors in the Caribean. the hospital I saw looked like a small metal shack from the outside and had chickens running around it on the dirt road. the inside was modern like what we have in Canada, so was ok! It's better if u can avoid going to the hospital for anything though...
