- No blu-ray
- regular brightview, even if it is LED, not bright enough
- smaller screen
- not Sonata cell battery

it's a worthwhile option, but better to just wait and see how much the DV8's will sell for here.

As that Staples one is one I've been considering, also consider that it DOES have:

6GB RAM (200$ US upgrade for the DV8)
500GB HDD (don't remember the upgrade price.)

Last year, Staples had a DV7-1074CA that was normally 1500$ that was $979 for one week only with BluRay and everything. I hope they have another deal like that, as I managed to sell that laptop almost a year later for $850. $150 to 'rent' the laptop for a year was a pretty good deal!

still trying to get a creditcard to work with this (my paypal account doesnt work, prob need a us paypal account)

anyway when I do ill probably try using shipito.com to forward my package (probably will cost ~50-70 bucks) I have used them before for forwarding a 8lb package and it was ~27 bucks usps but since this laptop is super heavy and the box dimensions might be bigger i think it will be double.

As for warranty, I am not too too worried. I have two hp laptops and that have lasted 2+ years with no problems.

I have 3 days to try to get the payment sorted out though

What time of year was this deal?

What time of year has the best deals? January? Late December?

Very late Nov, early Dec. I'm guessing last week or first two weeks, I'd have to find my Visa statement to be sure. I"m hoping something like that comes up again.

For the other question, I've found the last two years running, the best deal was 2-5 days before Boxing day, at Best Buy. Open Box items in the 'cage' were about 20% off, then right before Boxing day, when they needed the cage space for items on the sale, they put up a "10% off all open box" and I think threw in a free laptop bag.

I picked up some Acer 15" with SD reader, 802.11n, 320GB and HDMI for $329. Not that the acer would be my first choice, but it was a heck of a deal.

I've noticed that this year, there are more "bundles" of their clearance laptops. They throw in needless service like making recovery discs, setting up the system and some cheap accessories to justify their "bundle" clearance price.

I picked this one up @ 100 off (and posted it here), it's 150 off now - amazingly fast, great price, a steal for the i7 imo.
