Default Toshiba Laptop- Screen goes blank?

I have a Toshiba A100 laptop that I purchased last May from Futureshop. Recently, I've been having problems with it. For instance, the screen will go blank though the laptop does not shut down because I can still hear normal computer sounds. My screen will go blank to this purple or white colour. I would have to turn it off to get the screen back again. Also, the screen blinks at times. Also, sometimes my keyboard will not function. I can move the mouse around though. Again, I would have to turn my computer off to get back to its normal state.

I only have the normal 1-year warranty from Futureshop (no ext. warranty). I don't have any experience with their warranty, but before I go visit them, anybody have an idea about the problem could be? What do you think Futureshop can do about it? Thanks for the help.

I had a similar problem with a customer's brand new Toshiba A100 last summer. I called Toshiba support, they were quite helpful, walking me through different scenerios. Since the PC was only a couple of weeks old I ended up getting a new one since it turned out to be a hardware problem.

Give Toshiba a call, before going anywhere near Future shop.

Good luck.

Could be a loose power cable. When the screen goes dark, if you can still see writing by looking really close, then it is the power cable.
