Default TIP: Request a gift receipt

Just a reminder that when shopping at this time of year if you suspect something may go down in price before the new year (ie on boxing day) ask for a gift receipt. Most retailers will provide this to you and allow you to "return" the item well into Janurary now. That will extend the opportunity to match a lower price for the same item well past the normal 14 days for some things.

....err... That's not a hot deal.
Retailers like BB always extend the return policy even on original receipts.

It would be if the price of your item drops on Boxing day.

err.. price protection works with gift receipts? What are they going to do, give you money back? That doesn't sound right.

Most boxing day sales are 1 day sales and returns are usually not allowed on boxing day, in which case you'd not be able to price match after the price went back up.

Of course if the price stays down then cool, you may be able to do it.

Don't gift receipts omit the price from them?

gift receipts omit the price on them....so that gift receivers don't know how much you spent but there is a code on the receipt that when they scan, they should know how much the original price is.

I had this happen to me at Club Monaco....received a jacket as a gift but it was too small. I went to the store and didn't have any more sizes. So I was able to exchange for other items equalling the original amount, even though apparently the jacket went down in price as did most of the other older stuff.

I exchanged for two items and received a store credit for the remainder of the original amount. Not bad!
