2 ways:
1 - download DRM packager (not too sure about the exact name) i think it's by sony ericsson, DRM the mp3s you want to use as ringtones and then upload them to the phone

problem with this is that you'll have to do each mp3 individually, very time consuming

2 - flash your phone using wotan server, this will unbrand your phone, so no more mp3 restrictions and you'll get what ever normally comes with the phone. but it'll remain locked to rogers.

problem with this is that it'll cost about $10 and if by some random chance you screw it up, the warranty will be voided.

You don't have to do the MP3s individually.... you can do them in a batch, then upload them to the phone all at once.

Here's the link for DRM packager:
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/si...isc/p_misc.jsp

I suggest if you only need mp3 ringtones just use the DRM packager for now. And maybe flash your phone later when they can unlock and not just unbrand the Rogers K790.

I think I read somewhere that you can flash the latest firmware from SEUS, it will also allow you to use MP3. Should check howard forums.

I had this very issue a couple of weeks ago.

I can't believe that Rogers are so cheap that they lock out MP3 ringtones.

Anyhow, I tried the DRM packager but the K790 wouldn't recognize the file so I just flashed it using Wotan. The two most popular flashes are China and Latin America. I chose the Latin America firmware (america2) because I have no interest in Chinese unless it involves a buffet. (Latin America gives English, Spanish and Portuguese.)

Everything works fine and I got a few extra games out of the deal. The phone seems to power on faster and I don't have any of the crappy Rogers branding anymore, including the annoying Rogers jingle at startup.

i used davinci when i flashed my phone
http://www.davinciteam.com/index.php

there should be a set of instructions somewhere on that site...if not the forums for that site on what to do to flash

but you just need the usb cable that came with the phone and costs about 13usd

to do it the drm way, you have to upload via bluetooth, then it will recognize it.

screw all these ways.... why don't you just UNLOCK your phone for $30 at pacific mall? It'll let you do everything without all this hassle of DRM and individual mumbo jumbo.

I'm pretty sure the k790a can't be unlocked atm...the DRM packager works fine for me though.
Transfer the files to the main folder (not the subfolders, the area where the Memory Stick and Phone Memory Folder is located) where then the phone will recognize the file and change the file name to something else, and then you get options to either use it as a ringtone etc.
