Soju! where art thee...

Anyone here occasionally enjoy a bottle of Soju?

I'm talking about those green bottles you can order at restaurants in Ktown for $15. I know they are dirt cheap in Korea, so I suspect that someone's running a monopoly selling them at $15 a pop over here.

Do you guys get them any cheaper than that?
It'll sure keep me warm these cold summer nights!

soju is very cheap alcohol. In korea, one of those bottles are not even a dollar.

theres no realy way u can buy it cheap here, onyl way is to go to korea, and smuggle some over.

I think they're $10.95 for a 375mL bottle at LCBO.

I was at the liquor store just earlier in Vancouver. It's abt $9 a bottle here...

But my korean friend has a whole stash from Korea... therefore, cheap soju tonight

the green bottle soju is pretty rare outside of ktown, but the more 'health-concious' Bek Se Ju is available at select LCBO locations, in markham the one at warden and hiway7 has it (out of stock as of 2 saturdays ago), and as the previous poster, its 10.95/bottle.

How does the "Bek Se Ju " compare to other ones? Are there other options available at the LCBO? I had some Sojo (I thought it was spelled Schochu and probably didn't connect my quest for this stuff back to this thread orginally because of it) when I was in Japan a few months back.. Tasty stuff. I got my sister to bring me back a bottle when they came back but now that they are back in Canada for good, I wasn't sure if I would be able to get a supply of this stuff. It doesn't look like it is listed as Soju or any variation of it on the LCBO website.


EDIT: Oh, the reason why I am bringing this back up was because there was an episode of Thirsty Traveller set in Korea on the food network tonight. Will probably be repeated throughout the week.

Most of the cost of a bottle of Soju here goes to taxes.

Other countries has lower taxes, hence lower prices.

bek se ju is infused with ginsing and other herbs.. it doesn't taste like the new style soju (made from fermented sweet potato and tapioca) in the green bottles. Thats the only soju i've seen at the LCBO tho. Warden and Hwy 7 has closed down but there is a new huge LCBO at woobine and 7, haven't been there yet but i'm sure they might carry the bek se ju there..give it a try u might like it.

Actually, I did a product search on the LCBO website. There are a bunch of locations that carry "Bek Se Ju" and have stock. Next time I am in Toronto or Mississauga I will pick some up

That was an awesome episode. I enjoy Korean food, but I definitely got to try this Soju soon... Gotta love that dragon noise you're supposed to make after you take a drink of Soju

I can get a box of soju (24 bottles) for $175 delivered to my door.

So has anyone here found any Lemon Soju or other 'flavoured' soju that was so popular in Korea?
By the way in the states it is much cheaper - used to go for half the price.
Used to use this as paint thinner.

Just watched a show about soju (the thristy traveller) sounds like good stuff, too bad the lcbo doesn't have much selection.
