Getting DID numbers to ring Your Current SIP/VoIP provider

1. Some DID Providers (including the ones above) offer forwarding to your current SIP URI, YourVoipUsername@YourProviderProxy

OR

2. SipSorcery.com
Go to www.sipsorcery.com, and create an account. On the provider Config Page when logged in, under the 'contact' field put where you want it to ring YourVoipUsername@YourProviderProxy

3. VoXalot.com(www.voxalot.com) (Cost: Starting at $15/year)
-You need to perform a SIP Registration
-If you want the number to ring somewhere else (not VoXalot) use their forwarding features.

4. PBXes.com
-Although slightly complicated, it can achieve forwarding as well

Raketu has Free Canada to HK, but it asks for a one-time $9.95 USD. You can also use Rebtel, if you explain whoever you are calling what to do beforehand. Also MediaRingTalk has a promotion with free calls to HK until July 30

Here you have a mistake, it should be set to YES.

No, for the purposes of having your CellPhone/HomePhone set Active and Register to No. You are just going to use PhoneGnome to dial your Cell/Home number. It works if you set it to Yes, but you also risk creating an infinite forwarding loop. Try it with No on both first, it's working for me.

I have no idea, because I just tried it and when setting to NO it just goes to VM. But when I set to YES it works for me. I set it up with my Work Number on PhoneGnome. I just had a friend from CA call me and it worked find with he called the local number.

I think I know what the difference might be. I have setup in the forwarding to call my number at work. Not sure if I should have left that empty.

Forward inbound call to: PHONE NUMBER

Forwarding Number: 416-555-1212 [DIAL PLAN]

Hehe, yeah I missed something.

Disable Voicemail on Voxalot (set to No under Member Details)--I forgot to mention this
Set Active, and Register to No for PhoneGnome (under Providers)
Set forwarding to 14165551212 via PhoneGnome, not Dial Plan (Under Forwarding)

Try a call yourself (if you have another phone to call from)
Toronto Access number is 1-647-476-FREE + *010 + 6 digit VoXalot account

(The reason I insist on No, is that if yes, Someone calls you--Voxalot forwards via phonegnome to your number--this rings your number but also the registration on voxalot--which forwards to your number again....you can see where this goes)

Let me know how this goes.

Yup that works.

Why not just use the method I had setup which wouldn't need phonegnome? Am I missing something?

Well...... What was routing the call in DIAL PLAN? I know VoXalot doesn't call 416 numbers for free?

So the question is what was calling your phone when you had it set up to forward via DIAL PLAN. If you have another provider setup.... does it charge you to call 416 numbers?

I don't know! I followed your instructions minus the option to select PHONEGNOME as the provider. So for some reason VOX WAS calling my number(647). Try it yourself. I left pretty much all default. Heck in the profile I didn't even change it to indicate I was in Canada.

Free 416 Number: Not really

However:
-VBuzzer.com: USD $2.28/month, unlimited incoming (I use VBuzzer myself, they are OK, but CS is low to non existent, and cross-compatibility with VoXalot is spotty)
-VoiceNetwork.ca: USD $1/month for 647 number, but you gotta receive 500+ minutes of incoming calls or you pay $5.95/month
-The WorkAround Posted using SipBroker is free, but it isn't really your number just an access number with an extension for you.

Ok, figured this out:

If you add a provider and Set Active and Register to Yes, it automatically creates a DIAL PLAN for the first provider of this sort you add.

Hence when you added PhoneGnome with Yes Settings on both, it created a DIAL PLAN for PhoneGnome automatically, so choosing DIAL PLAN, or PhoneGnome became equivalent. Nice coincidence, had me thinking VoXalot was giving free calls there for a while....
