no need for a street map.
just go to shanghai and hire a taxi to take you around.. taxi's are super cheap in china, the taxi meter starts around 1.20-1.80 and it WON't change for a VERY VERY long time!

From what I saw on the Amazing Race, the taxi system looked like crap. But then again, what do I know, I haven't been there.

You can order street maps online, which might be convenient. I googled Shanghai Street Map and got quite a few relevant results.

Here are SH map pics taken with an EOS 20D. Highly compressed and shrunk to fit on page.

I have 8MP original TIFF files that are a lot sharperif you want 'em (24 Megs each). Just give me a place to upload it.

Actually, Shanghai's street map is always changing and developing since government's constructions. I suggest you just arrive there and buy a English version map at Shanghai airport. It will be more updated.
