Default Rudeness on RFD

I am new to RFD.
Someone puts a post on RFD.
It could be offering a freebee or just hooking someone else up with a good deal. Quite often the person is attacked or belittled by other contributors.
Why? I don't get it. Contribute something helpful or don't reply to the topic.

I think most RFDers are pretty good about not flaming someone but there is the exception - everyone is entitled to their own opinion...I think it's a pretty moderate forum though - I have seen worse on other sites where the moderators don't stop the on-line abuse.

About 6 months to a year ago this problem used to be a real problem on rfd. It has gotten substancially better.

I think people just have to remember that there is a learning curb to any forum board, and that posting in the wrong forum DOES happen.
There is a nice way to tell someone about it, and there are not so nice ways.

You'll run into that on every board, just ignore it and move on.

You're going to have to come up with some hard examples.

For the most part these forums are pretty good. However there's the odd case where someone deserves the flaming.

Like when someone posts their for sale thread into every single forum including the hot deals. When people blatantly go against forum rules, and posting etiquite they will end up getting flamed.

I think the problem is partly due to some new members not posting in the correct forum (between Hot Deals, Freebies, Off-topic, Soft/Hard Ware...etc). Then comes their PM-ing skills (or lack of) for the calculation. Also, the idea of a "Hot" deal is different from person to person. It seems that new members are easily satisfy with lower priced items...whereas some older members are after the low-low-ultra-low priced items.

I'm thinking along the same line as Carnage here, compared to other message boards we're a fairly tame lot. There are some people who are more agressive, or more "rules toting" who may jump on someone who made a mistake, but not the majority of the people.

The moderators keep these boards fairly clean, especially considering they have other jobs/classes outside of RFD. For freebies, or hot deals, I usually see posters inundated by "thank you's" from people, who appreciate their diligence.

well some ppl are just plain dix. just ignore them, or don't acknowledge their comment. Inevitably there will be jerks tho no matter what.

Ppl are rude probably b/c they get a kick out of irritating others. If ppl don't respond to it, they'll feel pretty and move on hopefully.

I concur with Carnage here.
this site is really tame compared to some others ( i can name one and i left there to come here). that board permits cursing but only in the threads and not in the subject line.
this was actually discussed a while back. i think it starts with people not reading the forum rules.

I hate newbies, they don't take the time to learn the appropriate forums to post in, or they post deals thare aren't deals at all or post them as deals without saying the deal applies to the US only. Worse are the ones where the poster works for the company with the deal (but don't tell you that).

I've been with RFD almost since day one, I lurked for months before joining and making my first post. Perhaps newbies should be put on probabation for a month before being allowed to post?
