Customer service said that the department I need to talk to is closed for the weekend. Maybe someone here has a suggestion?
I have Rogers Pay As You Go, Nokia 6085. When I text message to someones e-mail address, I get an error saying that I can't. Also, when someone e-mails me a text message to my cell, I don't receive it. Did I mess up a setting somewhere on my phone? This company and phone are new to me. I used to be able to do this easily with my cheap Virgin Mobile phone when I was with them. Any ideas? Incoming/Outgoing text not working. Thanks! |

you can not TEXT to an e-mail address, BUT... (_)_) you CAN send a TEXT to a special number called an e-mail gateway number, which most phones can do this behind the scenes so you dont know its happening, and this special text, will re-direct your text message to the public internet system to someones e-mail. A lot of phones have this programmed by default, but sometimes screwing arround with settings you are not familiar with in your phone can alter this enough to render this feature inoperable. The Text to E-mail gateway by Rogers is 0000000000 (Ten Zero's). alternatively, you can just send a generic TEXT message to this number, and put the e-mail address you wish to send to as the first line in the body of the message to TEST out this feature, that way, you will know if its your fault, or roger's gateway is down, which the WTS department who handles it re-opens monday morning.

Thank you so much.
Spoke to a rep today, turns out to be a couple things. 1. A setting was missing from my phone. 2. Experiencing technical difficulties in my area. Like you said, my phone wasn't able to send a text to an e-mail address. However the rep said she could do it on her cell phone, it actually gave her the option, whether she wanted to send it to a phone number or e-mail address. She has a 6103, I have a 6085. Anyways, she also told me about the ten "0"s, and we tested it, and that's when we found a setting was missing from my phone. All is good now, I can sent text messages to an e-mail, but I have to go through the long way around of adding the zeros, instead of a straight forward option. Thanks so much Paolo for bringing this to my attention! Is there a way for the phone to be set up automatically to do the zeros, and not having to key in a persons e-mail address? Or would that be getting too technical and too risky? Thank You! |

If you choose /send as email/ beware you are actually using DATA. It SHOULD prompt you to 'set up email settings' mind you so I doubt it'll happen inadvertently.
Out of curiosity what setting where you missing? I never knew there was actually something to 'set up' to succeede in getting the email gateway sms method to function.

The phone doesn't even allow me to choose to send to e-mail. Here's all that the steps that I take; Menu Messaging Create Message Text Message "To" and "Message" Fields display In the "To" field, it will only allow numbers, no letters. I can't even toggle the icon at the top to change from numbers to letters. The options won't allow it to be sent to an e-mail. The setting, I'll go into "Message Settings", "Text Messages", the rep added "Rogers" to "Message Centre In Use" and she added what looked like a phone number. However, when I go to "e-mail message centres" that's blank. I don't know what all that stuff is. Use packet data was changed to "No". don't know what that is. Reply via same centre was changed to "No. don't know what that is either. No matter how I try to use an e-mail address in the "To" field, it won't accept it. I tried with my own, using add recipients, my e-mail shows, but then it says, "no e-mail centre defined". Ahhh, Eureka! Maybe I'm missing that? But then when I backed out of the menu, it says that only "number" messages could be sent. GGrrrrrrr I liked my old cheap Virgin Mobile phone better.

I don't have a data plan, in fact I have that blocked, and it works every time. They can also reply to that message i send from their email program, and I get the message as well

Eureka!!!!!!!!
Finally, after speaking to several people, it was another frickn' setting on my phone. All these 000000's that we're talking about.... apparently the phone is supposed to do this in the background, mine wasn't, so I had to key 10 zeros in manually. Well, this setting that was finally looked at, I keyed the zeros in, and voila! The phone now does it automatically, and I can now send a text message to an e-mail address. Whew! |
