when i set it to record shows say House episode and get home and press list to see a list of shows ... the show is split in like 5 parts ...

one part 30 mins another 2 min another 20 another 10 like that.

This has been happening to a lot of people and from what I've read it has nothing to do with the PVR and more to do with the broadcaster. There is a lot of info on this topic at www.digitalhome.ca

I know that you could try recording the show on another channel (i.e. I record House on Global with no problems, but on the American network it can be chopped up).

It's because you are losing your signal on the station during the broadcast. I have that problem with my HD Fox stations. If for any reason the station cuts out, the recording will stop and when it comes back, it will start up a new recording. One time I tried to PVR a show on my bad fox station and I about 25 different 1-2 minute recordings because it was so bad.

My new strategy is PVR the show at a later time, or find a different station (ex. if fox is bad, look for it on say global).. but I also find with time shifting, if the show is originally on at 8pm and its my bad station, i'll PVR it at 11pm on another station, which usually works out ok.

The only option is to call rogers and ask a technician to come to your house and see if he can "boost" your signal. They came to my house and added a booster, it helped on a couple channels, but as I said above, some of the fox stations are still problematic.. its not your pvr.. its your signal quality to your house.

Isn't this because Canadian Netoworks are SimSubbing?

When this started happening, I just record the West feed.

Yeah House did that to me a couple weeks ago. What pisses me off more is when GlobalTV changes their schedule around and I have preset recordings.

The only problem I have with my PVR is I always lose the last minute or two of the program I'm recording. Pretty frustrating. Watch a show for 58 mins, then it stops.

You can avoid this by adjusting the recording times.

After you highlight the show in the Program Guide and press "Record", you should be taken to an approval screen where you have to "accept the recording"...before accepting the recording, use the arrow buttons to scroll over to the start and end times and adjust them by a couple of minutes. That'll solve your problem. You can also do this for your weekly recording presets (I did this for my weekly recordings of Heroes so that I don't miss the previews for the following week's show).

Default ABC issues?

My big issue with Rogers HD right now is the HD ABC channel. I get constant glitches when watching a show on ABC during primetime hours. It seems to happen just before every commercial - and has been becoming quite frequent during the shows themselves. It is very annoying and you lose a couple seconds of the show each time it glitches. Is anyone else seeing this happen? It seems to be an ABC HD specific issue...

I have also had the chopped up recording issue (the program recorded in many pieces). It mostly has happend with FOX HD broadcasts in the past. I actually haven't noticed it much recently (I think Rogers pushed an update to the HD box that changed the way it handles brief signal black-outs... I also think an update Rogers sent to the HD box caused the issue in the first place (before that the shows just had a 'glitch' in them but was still recorded as one file).

My PVR is really wierd ... if I have the hard drive at over 50% full, channel 24 (CP24) is unwatchable. It gets choppy and the picture cuts in and out randomly ... it is the only channel with that problem ...

i've been getting the same thing, on hdabc and occasionally on hdnbc. it seems to be a brief blackout or something - the image freezes for a few seconds with no sound... then it resumes again. is there a firmware update for the pvr?

there also seems to be a glitch somewhere when there is blank space in the audio - when there's blank space (eg. switching between scenes in a tv show), my receiver disengages from dolby 5.1, but when the sound resumes my receiver takes half a second to engage in 5.1 again. does anyone else have this problem, or is it a problem with my receiver?
