Rogers 5Mbps DOSCSIS modem: Motorola, Toshiba or Webstar?

I'm planning on getting the new Rogers' 5Mbps modem. Which one of the new modems is the best for mainly downloading and less problematic? I've heard bad stories about Webstar... Any Rogers Hi-Speed Internet employees with the low-down?

I am using Motorola. I don't know what is better because I did not use the other 2. Based on what I heard so far, the Motorola one is good.

I have a motorola pcx 2500 and have no problems with it. The highest speed i got was 635k/sec.

You mean Toshiba not Motorola, and pcx 2600 not pcx 2500, right?
And I thought the max speed for 5Mbit is 625KB/sec?!

1. Motorola SB 5100 (Ok)
2. Toshiba PCX 2600 (Ok)
3. Scientific Atlanta DPX 2100 (problems with downloading torrents, they say)

Erp ya i meant a toshiba, and yes it is a pcx2500.
My bandwidth monitor shows 635k/sec peaks from time to time.

I use all of them at multiple sites and have ZERO problems. I do not use torrents. The Toshiba better be a 2600 as the 2500 has a 10 mb half duplex ethernet interface.

Toshiba PCX2500 is a DOCSIS 1.1 modem so I don't know how you can have 635KB/sec, cause you need DOCSIS 2.0 for 5Mbit?!?

DOCSIS 1.1 vs 2.0 mean nothing they can both reach 5 meg speeds and even higher.

Motorola model number SB5100

Toshiba model number PCX2600

Here are the speeds im getting with my toshiba pcx 2500 on rogers extreme, the pcx 2500 is definetly compatible with the 5mbps service.

an accurate way of generating max bandwith is to use a Usenet program like newsbin. Usenet is UDP (NNTP) which doesnt have error handling and thus makes the download much faster. Not to mention that its a local rogers server that you would be downloading from.

just a dumb question if I may,

but can I just buy the modem somewhere else can call up Rogers to switch my HiSpeed to 5Mbps? or do I have to get it from Rogers?

I asked the Rogers Video in Kanata Centrium about the procedure... Bring in your old Rogers rented cable modem, buy the new modem for $79.99, and they'll make the switch for you. Go home and plug it in and leech! The account holder must be the person who makes the swap, though.

Please don't think I don't believe you, but can you just take a close look one more time at the number on the modem, not on the sticker or on the power converter. Here is why. They look the same. In my case, when they gave me a PCX2600, on the power converter, there was a big sticker PCX2500. Because I've never heard of a case like yours; 2500 with extreme service....
