I was like a lot of you folks right now, not believing in applying for jobs on the Internet, especially with the government thinking it would go nowhere
A little bit about myself: I am not bilingual and am a tech worker, albeit with not a lot of experience since I graduated at the height of the tech crash, back in 2001. I have done odd jobs, tech support, data entry, call centre you name it until last year when I latched on with Passport Canada as an operational clerk. I applied for that job on the Internet just like everyone else, did a test, passed the interview and references check and I have been here for 7 months. Since, I have applied to multiple jobs that are open to both internal and external candidates and am currently waiting to do 4 interviews!! I hope to get at least 1 of them, it's time to move up and move on!! Now that I am working inside the government (and I have a friend who is working in HR for another department) i can tell you that the most important thing for you folks who want to get in is to tailor your resume as close to the job descriptions as possible. The HR folks here simply don't have the time to read all the applications and the best way to get your resume scanned in is to have those important *keywords* that closely match the statement of qualifications on the resume. Once your resume got scanned in the rest should be smooth sailing. Of course, you still have to do a lot of legwork yourself like preparing for an interview and whatnot but this is your chance to prove what you got and what you can do. There will be a lot of people retiring from the Fed soon so they will continuously look for new people, regardless of what government will be elected LOL. I know the hi-tech market and the job market in general have picked up a lot lately so you may not be as desperate as before but the moral of this story is yes on-line applications do work, you just need some patience, an understanding of the system and of course a little luck doesn't hurt. I hope some RFDers can take note and jam away at all the jobs posted at the main portal http://www.jobs.gc.ca After all, we all need more dough for those hot new deals don't we ![]() Take care folks.

That was really a good post. I hope that leads to some good decisions and jobs for other RFDers.
