Default Q to those going into UofT EngSci 1st Year

First off, congratulations on getting into the program!

I have a couple old books from my first year (back in '03) that are taking up some space. I'm not sure if these editions are still being used. The books I have are:

-C Programming A Modern Approach - K. N. King
-Physics for Scientists and Engineers 6th Edition Volume 1 - Serway & Jewett
-Calculus 5e - Stewart

Would any of you kindly inform me if these are the editions that you guys are currently using?

If not, I guess I'll have to sell them at some used books store--if I can.

Thanks!

in any case.. why don't you come to the upper year "book burning" event during frosh week? I'm sure someone will buy from you there if you give a good price

I was in first year engsci last year (under the new curriculum), and we used all of those textbooks. It should be safe to assume that the incoming first years will be using the same textbook. A slight exception may be the King programming textbook, I hear they're coming out with a new one edition. I'm sure you know how ancient that one was...

Please let me know if these editions are ones you guys are using this year once you get your course lists. If I can make it down to Toronto during frosh, I might just get in on the "book burning." Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for the info.

I think I only looked in the programming book twice throughout the year. I'd keep it as a nice reference book if I were to continue programming.

I'm quite sure Serway and Stewart will be reused. They've been used for god knows how long now.

That said, if you're in 0T9, do NOT dump your Stewart text yet - you'll use them in second year still.

Hopefully that's true.

Did anyone receive their list of books, yet? Are the books I still carry the ones still in use? Or did they release newer editions?

Thanks again.

A user has brought to my attention that there is a package that is now sold that includes Volumes 1 and 2, as well as a solutions manual. Still no word on whether the Calculus and Programming books are still being used, though.

I wonder how much a place like BMV will offer for the Physics book... probably a good $2 or something.
