Powdered Egg Whites

Does anyone know where powdered egg whites can be purchased in Toronto? The only dry egg white product I can find at the supermarket is meringue mix, but that's loaded with sugar (and who knows what else). I tried a few local health food stores, but came up bare as well. If anyone can point me in the right direction, it would be greatly appreciated.

Gosh I learn sth new everyday. Never heard of powdered egg whites. Can't you subsitute it w/ regular egg whites? What are you trying to make?

Regular egg whites won't work for me. I'm looking for a dry protein source that I can pack in my lunch. Whey protein powder is my other option, but it's so damned expensive.

Interesting. After I did some googling after my first post. The only reason to use powered egg whites is for cooking or "because it is pasteurized, can be used safely without cooking or baking it".

Have you checked your local Bulk Barn store?

I think I spend too much time reading posts in these forums, but I remembered this powdered egg post over the weekend while I was shopping.

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but I found an egg substitute mix in the organic food section at Fortino's. I think it's meant for people who are allergic to eggs. I didn't get the brand of the dry egg substitute, but it's on the same shelf as "gluten-free" products.

You might want to try a big supermarket for dry egg mix because they stock a wider selection of products. (I often get frustrated at Food Basics because they don't have what I'm looking for. too basic!)

Find some egg protein powder from a bodybuilding supplements store. It's essentially powdered egg whites (isolate, maybe) and mixes great in milk shakes. Egg white protein has dropped in popularity in recent years due to the increasing use of whey protein, but there's little practical difference between the two.

What about tuna? I just eat it straight from the can, $.59 a can for 30 grams of protein. Not as convenient as whey, but cheap.

Whey works out to ~$0.60/serving (22g of protein) - egg white is cheaper than that?
