Default opinions on new system and cheaper parts

Hi

wanted some opinons on my new system. I am getting most of the prices from www.anitec.ca

I wanted some opinions before I purchase this system

Antec Sonata case w/ 380 Power supply $ 129
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939 ($189)
Asus K8N SLI ($255)
1024MB Samsung PC 3200 DDR 400 RAM (2x$80)
200GB SATA MAXTOR HARD DRIVE W/ 16MB cache ($155)
Sapphire Radeon x600pro 128MB DDR 128bit ($136)
case fan ($9.99)

thanks

I was wondering if there are cheaper prices elsewhere or if I am paying too much for the computer.

thanks

Some general comments about your configuration. It seems like you don't really know what you want. For example, you choose an Antec Sonata case, which is a nice case designed to be quiet, but you don't bother to buy a seperate quiet HS/F for your CPU (like a Zalman 7000) or choose quiet parts to compliment your case so it kinda defeats the purpose of the Sonata case. Secondly the motherboard you chose has SLI but you put in a video card that doesn't support SLI. So my suggestion would be drop the Sonata case and look into the Antec 3700BQE case. It's cheaper ($20-$30) and just as quiet if not more so. Don't bother with the extra case fan ($10), extra fans just adds noise and more then likely your system won't need the extra fan. Now with the money you saved get a quiet HS/F like the Zalman 7000, etc. Now with your motherboard and video card, I'd get a cheaper motherboard, something non-SLI, should be about $100 cheaper then the board you want. Now with the $100 you save drop the ATI x600 and pick up an Nvidia 6600GT level card. Personally I don't like wasting money on 'future' upgradability because by the time you actually upgrade to these new tech (like SLI) they'll have a single card that'll perform faster and be cheaper then 2 of those SLI cards.

If you want cheap, check canadacomputers.ca

they are by far the cheapest place i've seen that is retail.

If you want cheaper than that, follow Leebear's suggestion. No need to get SLI mobo, too pricey right now.

CC to me is alright. Every year i purchase about 3-4 things from them. To me they are ok. The one in misssissauga have the best service. But overall, is cheap, so don't expect top notch customer service.

I did once got a router and had problem with it. The reset button was loose and it can't connect to the ADSL modem. I exchange it on the spot and they gave me no hassle. The router still can't connect to the ADSL but i solve that problem already. Other than that...no prob here...

Antec Sonata case w/ 380 Power supply $ 129
Even Antec make good case, $129 is too expensive. If you want Antec, SX635B is a better bet. If you don't care about Firewire at the front, I personally thing Enlight 7250 is a better case you can find it for mid $70

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ socket 939 ($189)
Good

Asus K8N SLI ($255)
If you're going to use ATI card, why you spend $255 on a SLI board?

1024MB Samsung PC 3200 DDR 400 RAM (2x$80)
Good price

200GB SATA MAXTOR HARD DRIVE W/ 16MB cache ($155)
sure

Sapphire Radeon x600pro 128MB DDR 128bit ($136)
sure

case fan ($9.99)
highend case come with case fan.

If there is something you can't find let me know I can hook you up for a good price.

sorry not tryin to hijack the thread but just wondering, how are those samsung memory sticks?

im lookin for a new pc myself, im goin with the MSI NEO2 + AMD64 3500+ and a Raptor. and i'll just move the graphic + sound card over.

right now i got some kingston hyper X memory (2x256) which Oc's very good, so i was thinkin that, but a 2x512 pack at ncix is like $350, for that price i could get 4 of those samsungs and have 2GB of memory.

is that better then 1GB of the hyper X, i do plan on OC'ing the 3500 as well just not right away, how does the samsun OC??

im gonna wait for the ncix boxing day, i hope they have a good deal on some memory

You just remind me, SI usually aviod using Asus/Samsung combo because of the history of incompatility(sp?).

The reason of Kingston/ocz those guy selling kit for much high $ is because they tested that pair of rams will not have any incompatility(sp again?) issue.
