My wife and I are high school sweetheats. We have been together 10 years and now married for 4 1/2 years. We often talk about when we were young, and call it "Old School Love". We were young, crazy, and broke, but we were in love.
We had to come up with inexpensive ways to show each other how much we cared for each other back then. This made it way more enjoyable, and really brought out the creativity in ourselves. The effort we put into our gifts showed the amount love we had for each other (generally). We both agree that 2001 was the best Valentines Day we ever had. This is what I did for the love of my life... For weeks before Valentines Day I planned and designed a very elaborate scavenger hunt. I created all the clues made with hearts that I cut with red cardboard and printed and cut out pictures to glue on each one. The hunt involved finding clues around the neighborhood and checking answering machine messages for clues. The scavenger hunt must have taken her at least 2 hours to complete. I loved watching her use her brain to try to figure out where the next clue would lead her. We laughed and enjoyed going through some of the old memories that I had used to make to scavenger hunt a great success. The last clue lead her to my room (you have to remember we still lived with our parents at this time). I had cut out about 100 more hearts, all with messages of special times we had together or special sayings, and taped them to my roof from strings. She was so surprised, and I was so happy to see her enjoy her Valentines Day. Here's the picture of my room ![]() and we still have the hearts today
