Default The Official RFD Position on Avatars

While we support free speech at RFD, recently users have been choosing avatars that could potentially offend other readers and generally degrade the RFD experience.

This is why we have decided to outline features of an avatar that we would like you to avoid. These aren't hard and fast rules and it will ultimately be at the discretion of the RFD staff to decide if an avatar has crossed the line.

Questionable avatar content: close ups of breasts, crotches, or bums (eg thongs), suggestions of sexual acts.

A good rule to follow is "Would you want your boss/parents/children to see you looking at that?"

At no time will we allow avatars to display profanity or racist imagery.

Yeah - thanks for keeping things clean. Nothing like your wife or kid asking you what that avatar is....and to say nothing about co-workers.

Personally I like the idea of avatars. It gives the ability to personalize your idenity in a public community along with a signature. Also helps me to easily identify other RFDers and helps me to quickly locate my own posts while scrolling through threads instead of reading each name.

As Ryan said, you can disable them in your user settings if you want.

Why is ghettogal's avatar so huge despite the size restrictions?

That doesn't look that big.

In terms of filesize it's smaller then yours, just a bit taller.
