I give it 5/10. I'm half disappointed. I was looking for a replacement for GBA SP, but this one is so big, so heavy, unless there's a specific NDS game I like, I will still take GBA SP with me when I go out. The A/B/X/Y button is too small. Overall, I'm not impressed. Hope there will be some good games out soon. I'd really like to see advanced war NDS version.

Here are some nice pictures of the box/contents and actual handheld courtesy of play-asia.com. Along with size comparison to different Gameboy Advance units ..

I'm only slightly disappointed. Neither this nor the PSP will be pocket-sized like the GBA:SP. We got spoiled by nintendo on that fine piece of hardware.
The DS is PDA-sized and can be a burden unless you have a purse or are wearing cargo pants .
I'm easily impressed with the battery life though. I've been using it all day and it's still green. I doubt I can do that with the PSP.
I'm still not used to the d-pad and the tiny buttons. D-pad is kinda painful for Mario.
As for the games themselves, it seems like the touch screen features are not being utilized all that much. Although I must say, for on-the-go FPS action, the touchscreen CANNOT be beat. Everyone I showed Metroid Prime to was impressed with the smooth movement and the awesome controls using the touchscreen. It really does approximate the keyboard+mouse experience and IMO beats it.
I'm still pining for Feel the Magic though. I really want that game badly.
I love the fact the linkers work as well as the Movie Player (and looks better too thanks to the backlit screens). I'd give the unit itself 8/10 and the games 6/10 for not being imaginative enough.

Ya so far I'm not impressed with the games. The unit I'm in love with. I'm going to be buying either feel the magic or the sims tomorrow... mario was fun for a bit but I find myself just playing the mini games when I'm bored. Nothing is really different from 64 (which I knew but didn't really care at the time) so it's nothing exciting. The controls I find are harder on the DS for mario... but on metroid it's prime. This is the game I"m waiting for and playing the multiplayer only makes my longing for the game worse. I'm also looking forwards to ridge racer, but other than that, nothing else is really coming out until march which is a bummer. Anyway, this will keep me busy, and again, I'm in love with the unit .

Also... anyone play much of the minigames? I only unlocked a few yoshi ones... haven't played too much. So far my highest and most proud of score is the yoshi one with the yoshi's under the boxes... I got a score of 152 and could've gotten higher but a friend wanted to play metroid and my head was getting dizzy ;o

when DS was announced, nintendo was adament (sp?) that this WAS not a gameboy product, so alot of people assumed that another handheld will be coming out.

just what i heard at the time, dunno if its true or not

Yeah, the only games I'm actually looking forward to playing are Mario Kart DS and Wario Ware DS. So guess I'll wait till they come out. Maybe soon after will be the price drop and I'll get it then

Here's the official Super Mario 64 DS website ..

Does anyone have any sales numbers (i.e. how many units were shipped/sold)? I have 7 left for sale and I'm trying to get a feel for exactly how rare this unit is at the moment (<a href=../AffiliateAdmin/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>eBay</a> is flooded right now... but how will it be right before Xmas?).

I've been frequenting the IGN boards and it looks like a sell-out for all the big cities so whatever Nintendo said they shipped practically sold out.
However, if <a href=../AffiliateAdmin/redirectpage.php?linkid=78 target=_blank>eBay</a> is flooded I dunno how many folks bought it for that purpose sensing the worldwide demand.
They will put most of the units into the red hot Japanese market. Pre-orders there are through the roof.
No one knows how many the big N is shipping to replenish supply stateside.
I can't seem to get into Mario. I boot it just to play the minigames but I guess I need to keep playing it more to unlock more of 'em. I find it too annoying trying to control Mario with the d-pad. I guess I suck
The slingshot game owns me.

If they ever release some sort of web browser I'd get it for sure but right now it's too expensive for me. I'd much rather get PS2 or even Xbox.

Can't confirm this yet. Read it at an IGN forum. Will have to wait and see if it is true:

When I (finally) get mine delivered, I'm gonna roam around wireless hotspots and make calls to other DS users. It'll be great!
