Is there such a thing folks? Basically want to purchase a DVD-recorder with a HD to record HD content, preferably one with a menu/guide functionality built in.
HTPC is just not for me in the living room, and I'm a total noob when it comes to recorders (been out of that whole segment for quite some time). Thanks. |

You want an HDD (hard disc drive) recorder.
If you want to record in HD quality, I'm not sure if any recorders exist. Majority (if not all) of them record in SD (480), but it will work with any non-copy-protected source, regardless of quality. |

You can't buy a generic Hi-Def recorder due to content protection used by all the HDTV providers. If you want to record Hi-Def, you must buy the overpriced proprietary PVR offered by your HDTV supplier, e.g., Bell, Rogers, Shaw, Star Choice etc.
