So is that just a custom mod?

It looks like it's missing a dvd drive entirely.

can't really tell because it's not in english.

My friend translated most of it.

Its the real thing coming from Microsoft.
There is a DVD drive, but no hard-drive.

Could be legit, but I have no idea. Not that I own/follow XBox stuff anyway. But what I found it funny and ironic is that the Kenji besides "EXPRESS" on the paper means "fake". I don't know Japanese so I don't know the rest, but the fact that the Kenji means "fake" makes me laugh

Pretty slick. X-Box without an HD seems pointless, though...

Really? Where is the DVD drive. I can't see for sure because the picture is too small.

It doesn't look like there's any room. The normal spot that the DVD would take up is blocked by the controller ports. Unless it's underneath the start button, bit it doesn't look big enough.

So if there's no hard drive you'll need a memory card to save games right?

Hmm, that doesn't look real. I thought some games like Halo 1 depend on the hard drive to load stuff. Long time since I first read about it, but I remember MS saying how that gave faster load times for the xbox or something like that.

No hard drive makes the whole thing pointless. A memory card doesn't cut it. A lot of Xbox games take up a lot of hard drive space. And let's not even talk about downloadable content.

The new slim xbox may be Japanese exclusive because of the Japanese's viewpoints on electronics; where small is good. The removal of the hard-drive may be a way to cut back on illegal copying of xbox games, ie. following of the footsteps of PS. This may be the xbox that will also be sold in China because China has yet to get the Xbox and removing the hard drive will cost less for microsoft and deter illegal use of it.

You sure it's not a mock-up for Xbox 2 (Xbox Next, whatever they are calling the successor), since it will have a hard-drive-less version?

I'm pretty sure this is fake. Or I they could be using laptop harddrive and dvdrom. Although I don't see the power switch or the tray. Seems fake.

Looks fake.
My brother is an Xbox game developer. Although the HD is hardly used for caching (he says streaming off the DVD to RAM is actually better), it is used for the custom soundtracks (for games that make use of it, MS doesn't document this Xbox-unique feature all that well actually which is why you don't see too many devs making use of it) and as mentioned here: "updates."
The Xbox RAM is fully used in a lot of games, but I guess you can let the OS handle this. Even he hasn't heard of this Xbox-lite.

Doesn't X-Box Live depend on the X-Box's hard drive to work? I can't see MS selling an X-Box unit that won't allow for Live support, as Live is one of their key selling points and a means to gain market share.

Ok....that section of famitsu is called Nise Express......basically is about bogus news and stuff but it said below that most of the stuff in the section have been bogus but this particular piece is real.(well I guess all we can do is wait and see......) To be honest.......I wish they would get rid fo the lame ass cross symbol and the big round crap in the middle. I mean I do want a slimmer xbox but that look ugly has hell and maybe even worse than original. A crystal version then probably would look hella better and hopefully it is one of the 7 color versions will be available mentioned in the article. The whole green plus black color scheme really really doesn't work for me.
