yeah its been all over the news.

as much as i like Ellen, i don't think she has the skills to be a judge of song and dance.

But i guess neither did Paula, in her recent frame of mind.

I would have preferred to see some washed up singer.

Yeah they need someone from the old school that has some skills, one of the Beegees prehaps. They are some of the most prolific song writters ever. Or what about someone from aerosmith? Or Kiss? Or a Beetle? Or a ....

you see what im getting at here i assume.

Paula was a drunken airhead, Ellen's humour is just gonna clash with this show. I really can't see myself watching it with her on.

I was hoping the rumours of Victoria Beckham replacing Paula were true.

Even though Paula didn't provide anything but entertainment to the show and pointless speeches, at the end of day, she was in the music business and was successful in her own right.

Ellen has no business being on this show just like how she had no business being on SYTYCD. She has no experience or enough experience for this.

I would have preferred V.Beckham, at least she was a popular entertainer/singer.

Ya Ellen was pretty out of her element while judging on SYTYCD. She was mildly entertaining though since she is still Ellen. So I guess in that sense it could work. I haven't watched AI in a long time but I would start tuning in for Ellen.

I don't think this is a good move and is a jump the shark moment for the show. I think her schtick is going to get old fast. She's gonna try to say something funny during every judging segment. This is going to be like Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football but maybe worse since she isn't very funny.

I don't understand why Idol needs 4 judges. The judging format is similar to that as Britain's Got Talent - and they abandoned the 4 person panel after that ill-fated Kelly Brook experiment.

With X Factor, the addition of Cheryl as the 4th judge made sense, since it created more specialized boot camp groups and gave the contestants more personalized attention from their mentoring judges.

I was about to write something scathing about Ellen because she has no music industry experience.

While she may not be a household name in music, I totally forgot that she has over 30 years of industry experience (as a writer and comic according to IMDB) so she's not exactly green when it comes to this sort of thing.

I think I'll wait and see what happens. She may actually turn out to be a better judge than the others.

Not sure if being in the "industry" means she's qualified to be a judge of music and dance.

Sure she's a comedian and actress or whatever, but music is completely different.
