Default Need recommendation for quite 10,000 RPM drive?

i am in search for large capacity >100GB 10,000 RPM SATA drive.

i heard horrible stories about raptor drives with high noise levels.

can someone post some recommendations for good quality quiet 10,000 RPM drives?

AFAIK, the Raptor is the only 10,000 RPM SATA drive...

I always thought the Raptor was quiet anyway, based on some SPCR reviews http://www.silentpcreview.com/article622-page2.html

i read the same article too before i post this; somehow, my take of it was different than yours. especially after hearing the recordings on the site.

it is very loud. not as bad as the old 7200.10, but yikes still.

are there new models coming in the pipline soon within the next 1-2 months (if so, i can wait this long)?

There are no quiet 10,000RPM drives. They simply spin too fast. The quietest desktop drive right now is the Western Digital Green Power and it runs at 5400RPM.

not that i've heard of...

raptors are outclassed by the 750GB/1TB drives now anyways.... purely because these mammoths have extremely high densities that make up for the lower RPM

The faster the spin, the noiser, just like those cooling fans.
