need new laptop today
But I guess it would make the most sense to wait until Vista is released, I don't really want the hassle of going through getting it upgraded in a few weeks.
I don't mind being an early adopter for an OS. So, will dell, fs, bb, pretty much isntantly have vista OS pc's on release date? (February 1st?)

Don't know if FS/BB will have it right away. Even if they did, you would probably need to go through the manufacturer to get the upgrade disks.
I can't see Dell or other system integrators not having it yet, seeing as how it went to RTM a while ago. They have it for their own testing/tweaking/customizing. |

January 27th, you should be able to go into any Best Buy and see the Vista machines. January 30th, you'll be able to buy them. If you're buying an XP laptop, you can get a free upgrade through the manufacturer.
