Hey everyone, I got a gateway media center, and the infrared adapter used with the remote control isn't being recognized by my computer. When I plug the infrared adapter in, my computer tells me it doesn't recognize it. I even searched my gateway cd for possible drivers I need to install but found nothing. It's just a generic adapter, and was wondering if I can use any other brand of drivers in order to use it? thanks.

sounds simlar to the deal I had with a POS IR-USB adaptor that I bought off of Ebay. Can't be much help, tho, I ended up throwing it away! After several messages to the idiot who sold it to me to get the drivers (he claimed it was PnP), looking for the drivers on the 'net, and installing anything that looked remotely applicable, I couldn't get the thing working!
Good luck. Maybe your best bet is contacting Gateway...

thx for the insight
, I tried searching the gateway website but didn't see my media center as one of the options to be selected. Oh well, yea my infrared adapter looks pretty generic as there is no specific brand name... it says made in Indonesia though. lol.
