No such thing as half year insurance for motorcycle in Canada. Full year only.

Yes, you can cancel after summer. But they'll tell you that the rates are pro-rated for the riding season so you don't get much back. Also, it looks bad the next time you try to renew as this counts as a lapse and they MAY disregard your previous experience.

from my knowledge, statefarm insures bikes at a month by month basis.
catch is they won't insure your bike alone. you need to already have a policy (house, car, etc.) with them.

all other bike insurance companies are total scam artists. most of them pro rate a 6 months... meaning you get insured the full year, but if you want to cancel after 6 months, you get $0 back.

WRONG! I had month to month for 6+ seasons now. Previous post is correct I am with State Farm and have my car policy with them also.

Ahhh, stereo-typical Torontonian response... "there is no Canada outside of Ontario"

The cheque in front of me says I got $258 refund for cancelling my MC insurance with 6 months left.

Golly wilbur, duh.

I guess I'm blind where it says 6 months on my ICBC insurance for the CBR1000 I ride.

In AB, the policy is pro-rated, as stated above, so that you pay for probably 80% of the policy in the summer months. You could technically cancel the insurance the other 6 mos of the year, but what would be the use as the risk may far outweigh the potential economic benefit. That may be what the agent is talking about.
