MediaWatch Project Coordinator The Organization MediaWatch is a national research and advocacy organization committed to improving the portrayal of women and girls in Canadian broadcasting and print media. Widely renowned for its research, advocacy and educational outreach, MediaWatch prompted action to ensure a media environment that realistically and fairly represents women in our physical, economic, racial and cultural diversity. Globalization, increased concentration of media ownership, and an explosion of new media forms are adding complex challenges to MediaWatch’s internationally recognized areas of expertise. The Project In order to continue to effectively and efficiently meet 21st century challenges, MediaWatch is proposing a national consultation with feminist leaders and media literacy experts to assess its mission and redirect its strategy. This two day consultation will involve 20 to 30 participants in a results-oriented consultation that will: • Clarify the most strategic direction for MW to take in the coming decade in order to re-establish its relevancy as an organization equipped to positively influence the portrayal and representation of women and girls in the media; • Reinvigorate MW as an organization by re-articulating the need for its work, building on its existing resources, broadening its base of support, and creating a dialogue between activists and industry players • Identify specific, realistic options for a sustaining partnership between MW and a stable organization offering some infrastructure support and/or complementary expertise and resources. This consultation will be held over 2 days in Ottawa or Toronto in late Winter or early Spring 2006. The Job A Project Coordinator is needed to assist in the planning and administration of this initiative as well as to initiate implementation of the action plan generated by the consultation. This is a part-time contract with a 24 week term. The ideal Project Coordinator: • Brings experience from the women’s and/or equity movements • Has worked in the non-profit sector, with experience in organizational development, resource development and financial management • Has superb organizational and communication skills • Demonstrates initiative and self-motivation • Is bright, energetic, positive • Has a national orientation and big picture perspective • Has a demonstrated interest in, or involvement with the media • Is bilingual • Resides in Toronto or Ottawa and already works from home • Is interested in remaining involved as either a staff or board member Interested candidates should e-mail a resumé and cover letter, no later than Friday January 27, 2006 with the subject heading “MW Project Coordinator” to leaps@web.ca
