MBNA new Smart Cash MC

For those who dont venture in the hot deals forum, mbna is coming out with a new smart cash card which can be upgraded from the permier rewards...I am going to call in and upgrade.

In order to get the card now, you have to threaten to cancel your previous mbna card then mbna will upgrade the card for you. MBNA won't simply convert your card anymore...although there are instants where you can still convert through phone, VERY VERY YMMV.

5% for gas/groceries 6 months
afterwards 3%.

You get 3% back on the first $600 spent on gas groceries each month, after that it will be 1%.

1% cashback no cap on other purchases.

No annual fee

10 months for 1.99% B/T promo

$50 cheque will be mailed once you reach $50 smart cash pts. Arrives in 3-4 weeks after the statement date.

otherwise same as premier rewards platinum plus aka prp+.

When calling in to convert, tell MBNA u want to cancel the card and they will "upgrade" your original mc to Smart Cash. MBNA will not just convert from any mbna card to smart cash anymore.

Does this have the same features as the Enrich Platinum (or better)?

enrich platinum has price protection afaik and a $500 cashback cap...otherwaise they are really the same.

During the first 6 mths, if I buy the gift cards in the gas station, for example, esso gift card, will that qualify for 5% cash back?

I think this is actually targeted to compete with the momentum. Being platinum and NO annual fee helps.

I'm going to apply for this one I think. Hopefully MBNA gives me another card after I maxed out their first one (limited 0% BT rate).

If that's accurate, along with the added cashback for gas/groceries, this is hot. Calling in first thing tomorrow to verify and upgrade my Platinum Premier Plus.
