May I suggest also being open to looking for a samsung dvd rom as they are generally better than the philps.

thanks djxp but the prices I've seen for the samsung is like double or tripple that of the phillips and the model I have, never had any performance problems. I use my system as is and the only modding I'm doing to it is to put the ATA100 cable and feed the fan with 12V instead of whatever lower voltage it's normally fed with. I have a v1.0 xbox and I bought it refurbished so in the 3yrs I've had this system the dvd drive is the only thing that ever died. I'm replacing it with a phillips because that's what came in my system originally and it worked perfect in it.

Now if only someone would help me out with a list of the best chipsets/cards for USB2.0 and Firewire 1394B PCI adaptor cards, preferrably a combo card. I want the fastest performance with the least system resources toll. I plan on running 10 devices (mostly hard drives and optical drives) at the same time.
