It's a ton cooler in GVA than the last 5 days isn't it? We've been looking for a portable as well - I don't think you're going to find anything portable for sub $500 - the stuff into the window ones can be had for less.

There is one at Costco right now on sale - don't recall the price, but it was in the $600 range

*bump*

I'm also in GVA and looking for a portable unit for my apartment. I have 2 computers running 24/7 (server and htpc), plus xbox, amp, in-suite laundry running sometimes... man it can get hot. Last summer was almost unbearable so I hope I can get one before it's too late.

I've heard that Danby sucks, and that's all I've seen at Costco.

I've seen units for sale at Home Depot (last week) and (last year) at Wal-Mart. They were in the $599+ range though; but I think the one in Home Depot was made by Maytag or Whirlpool.

Dammit, people! I am in Toronto, and I have two of these for sale (8000 btu and 9000 btu)! Will list them on RFD next week!
