LF: large packing boxes

I'll be moving with my little family to Singapore this summer. I need to buy lots of large boxes for storage and for shipping. What's a good place to buy large boxes?

I know that Walmart sells 10 large boxes for about 15$ but they are quite weak

Staples sells 2 boxes 18X18X18 for 11.80$ (11.46$ if you buy 3+, great deal ) but that's quite expensive...

Any other suggestions?

Have you been asking the corner stores etc. for boxes? Costco must have a lot hehe. I'm sure some would be suitable. Maybe you can go to a recycling depot to see if they have any collapsed boxes you can use. I know my local bottle depot has this huge bin inside where people drop off cardboard they don't need for it to be recycled...

Try staples, office depot, zellers, department stores have lots of boxes and if you ask the right person, like the shelf stocker guy who doesn't give a rip, he'll probably give it to you.

If you are using a professional moving company like AMJ Campbell they will provide boxes as part of the package, even if you are packing yourself. AMJ Campbell also sells moving boxes:

While these prices may seem high, do not underestimate the advantages of having standard size boxes when it comes to moving and storing. You may well save the cost of the boxes by using a smaller truck for moving or using a smaller storage locker.

As long as the box seems "sturdy", then you can suppliment the bursting strength of the boxes with good thick packing tape of say 2.0mm or more.

Anyone who's bought stuff shipped from me whether it's a boxed item or envelope knows that I go nuts with the packing tape.

I've had packages that I've sent that "mysteriously opened" enough for someone to "appropriate" something. That was before I really started using the packing tape.

You need a sturdy box b/c the packing tape will not really increase the weight tolerance of objects resting on the box.

Heck I've even double boxed a digital camera box that I've shipped out. Wouldn't you know it, it had a dent on one of the corners!

try your liquor store. lots of decent strong boxes. Heck if it can hold 12 bottles of JD it's good enough for me!

A little late on the notes, but...

I'm moving (as well) at the end of this month and hit up Loblaws while I was there grocercy shopping. They gladly handed over solid boxes no problem and welcomed me to come back if I needed more.
