Here's a good deal for those of you looking for a new pair of glasses.

At LensCrafters, buy any complete pair of eyeglasses or prescription sunglasses, and you get $125 off (minimum $300 purchase).

You might be able to get another discount by signing-up for their e-mail newsletter. I think that they used to offer $15 off coupons for new members.

Hmmm. Coupon says that it cannot be used with most insurance programs. I wonder why... Anyway, Walmart Vision Centers have a good selection at good prices. I just got a pair of frameless glasses with Essilor Crizal lenses for $250. Walmart was even cheaper than Costco.

Yeah. I think Wal-mart is great for prices and the glasses aren't bad. Just got mine with the clip on suglasses and transition lens. They're great

Lenscrafters I think aren't great for quality. I once got them there and didn't find it comparable to what I got from Iris, although they are cheaper. And you always have to wonder when they can make your glasses in an hour when others take at least a few days. I don't think I'll ever go back to Lenscrafters again. I will go back to Wal-mart for my next pair.

I disagree....not on quality but on service. I have been wearing hardcore glasses for 15 years (heh, damn computers making my eyes worse!), and have to upgrade my lenses every 2 years. Last week I went to a Hakim store looking to buy eyeglasses and contact lenses. The two "busy" ladies in the store told me that "the contact lens fitter is on vacation". So I say, "So what do I do?". Their response: "We don't know, but you can't buy contacts today, only eyeglasses". And then they go back to their little chat with eachother. Didn't even refer me to another location, didn't even remember that I wanted to buy eyeglasses too (I guess they forgot).

I always bought from lenscrafters (pricey but a 30% CAA discount, wow!), but my last pair was from Wal_mart. NEVER AGAIN! The coating was peeling, the frames were crap (they were $300 glasses!). So I went back to LensCrafters, got my eyeglasses from there, excellent experience, as usual!

Obviously Hakim doesn't want my money, and Wal-mart is just low quality. By the way, my contact lenses were MUCH cheaper at Zellers than anywhere else (including Wal-Mart), and a good brand name (Cooper Vantage).

While on the subject of vision correction, anyone know anywhere that beats Hakim's price
on Acuvue contact lenses? Price I was quoted was $210 for 8 boxes, and there's a $30
MIR after that.

they have the promo instore w/o any coupon or limit..just need to purchase a set of lenses + frames...I was there...on the other hand.. I went to Sears optical..they seem cheaper on every count (frames and lenses) and they care a good selection of both (my glasses cost 400+ so its worth shopping around every two years).

It's only because they have labs onsite while the smaller opticals have to send them out to get made.

If the lenses donot have to be surfaced (finished lenses) a good lab tech can do them in under 20 min.

The last glasses I bought were from The Bay Optical. The service was good, the frame was inexpensive (and titanium quality), but the lenses were a bit pricey.
The glasses before that I bought at City Optical. Excellent frame and moderately priced. The salesperson was nice and experienced - really looked at what would be the best fit for my face and hair. Unfortunately they closed that store and the other one I went to didn't have the same service. The frame and lens are still looking great after 5 years (it's just that my vision has changed a bit).
I've checked out Lenscrafters before and found them too pricey - even more than usual. I wouldn't go to WalMart, Zellers or Costco or any other big box store because they are not specialized optical stores. I think it pays out to pay for good service and good quality glasses: you aren't getting them every day, after all.
